It was a sad day for DeLand residents on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 as we lost a great neighbor, and a beloved citizen by our small town. Rufus Pinkney had owned a shoe-shine store beside our home for several decades. He was known for being extremely dedicated to his business and his customers. Some of his best customers coming from the DeLand Court House.
Today I lay a sunflower in your honor, and I can't help but reminisce on the times when we'd exchange smiles and  wish each other a good day. You made our days brighter, and our shared places better.
Rest in Peace, Rufus.
