The Stephens Family
You wouldn’t have guessed it by looking at the smiles on this little girl and her family, but on March 10, 2017, 3 month old daughter, Eleanor Paige, was diagnosed with Stage 4S Neuroblastoma. Eleanor (now 2-years-old) went through hospital stays, time in the pediatric ICU, surgery, and chemotherapy.
My heart went out to Sarah, as she shared her story of how when she had been pregnant with Eloise she found out that Eleanor’s cancer had progressed. While giving birth, Eleanor was simultaneously going through chemo in the same hospital. Having never had a child myself, I couldn’t even begin to imagine the amount of strength and courage that it took for this family to remain in high spirits during that time. Eloise, (now 7-months old) and such a happy baby has learned to be a patient and supporting sibling by spending time in doctor’s offices and waiting rooms for her big sister.
While Sarah and Scott pray every day for the health of their little girls, and that Eleanor remains cancer free, they decided to begin yet another big project in helping other families going through the same battles. The Warrior Kids Foundation, is a non-profit foundation committed to supporting families whose children are battling pediatric cancer. Three areas touched on are normal everyday expenses, treatment-related equipment, and supplies, as well as spiritual and emotional support through a licensed Christian counselor.
Just in Eleanor’s first two years of life has she become an inspiration for not only other children and their families who fell victims to cancer, but many around the world. She was even shown recently on a billboard in Times Square in NYC!
